New single: Thom Daugherty

A new song was released today by a friend, the great Thomas Daugherty. The title and song reference the George Wallace-led events in Alabama, and Thom weaves it lyrically to today. Smartly done. And the music rocks. There are Neil Young and Crazy Horse and Springsteen vibes in it.

I saw the preacher on the stage
Standing next to his pretty little wife
He’s telling me that I’d better beware
Cause they’re trying to kill off my way of life

Thom Daugherty / 2020

Thom has always been a grit-and-crunch-with-beauty guitarist, and his instrument shines here. Love the Hammond keys and the Bryan Adams snare-with-tambourine-type crack. It’s particularly effective out of the choruses, going back into the verse, when the music stops and resets. Grabs your gut. He has been producing other artists (did the work in 2014 for my longtime buddy Rusty Bladen and the heartland rocking “For The Better” album) and it is sweet to see him focus on his own music. Turn it up.
